Loosen up and paint faces in a relaxed and fun way

Grow with Flow

How to loosen up by playing with scale

Would you like to get your creative spark going? Would you like to loosen up, drop your perfectionism and paint faces in a relaxed and fun way? Then this is the class for you! Grow with Flow is your step-by-step guide to loosen up by painting faces in different sizes. I am so excited to share my process of mixed media faces with you. Give yourself time to be creative.

“Jenny’s courses have helped me with my perfection issues, they have released me and allowed me to create freely, and with joy. I still have a long way to go, but with every class I finish, and every project I work on, a bit of that negative stuff gets left behind. It hasn’t just helped my art/creativity, it is helping with my daily life too, in small ways.

-Manja-Freyja

Change the scale

I often hear from my students that they want to "loosen up” or they want to "paint more freely”.  I think that there are many ways to loosen up and one really great way is to change the scale you paint in. When you dare to go outside your comfort zone it is hard to do what you usually do. To paint smaller and paint several pieces at the same time and skip a lot of details or paint larger with bigger tools and bigger marks can both be good ways to loosen up and be more free. It is hard to be detailed on a very small scale and it can be hard, or at least very time-consuming, to be as detailed and precise on a big scale.

In this class, I want to inspire you to change your scale and paint smaller and bigger. Big does not have to be a big wall. Big is relative and is defined by you. Paint faces on different size substrates, scale what you normally do and discover how to play with mixed media faces in a relaxed and perfectly imperfect way.

Just get started with painting faces!

It’s time to find your flow and grow by getting outside your comfort zone. Change the scale and focus on the process of making – without getting hung up on the end result. Just mix it up and do it differently and enjoy the process without the pressure of perfection. This is how you’ll be able to grow and keep creating long after the e-course has finished.

I know from the many hours I’ve put into my own practice, and the many thousands of students I have worked with, that this process works. Now it’s your turn to blossom and grow into the creator you were born to be.

The next step? Pick up that pen or brush and start with me by your side helping you learn and explore techniques that feel right for you. In three projects I will help you uncover how to

  • start creating faces without feeling blocked or scared

  • create faces on 3 different sized substrates to loosen up

  • be brave and do some bold moves to make sure you do not get stuck

  • express yourself in a raw and relaxed way, free from rules and constraints.

    and more…

I hope you will join me!

Project 1 - Small and Loose

In our first project, we will paint several small faces. In this project, I will help you get going with painting faces in a loose and relaxed way. It is an exciting process. I begin by making backgrounds with left over paint to create a background to play on. I have no intention to create anything beautiful. I am just finding a way to get over the block or procrastination of getting started with painting faces and by adding light and dark we make them come alive. This process is about doing, about moving, about getting over the fear of painting faces. When you have those marks on the paper it is sooo much easier to take the next step.

Project 2 - Passion to Flow

In this project I work on a normal sized substrate, 30x30cm (12”x12”). I create a very grungy collage background and slowly find a face in the marks and texture of the background. The process is not very structured and it is usually just a line or a shape in the background that makes me feel and decide where to draw the face and what angle and expression it will have. I am working with processes where I am not in full control which makes me able to relax and stop the self-critique in my head. That’s it! And when we let go of the requirements to perform, magic can start to happen!

Project 3 - Go Big

In the third project, I want to show you that it does not have to be overwhelming when scaling up. I will show you how I paint on a bigger canvas using the same process as in my smaller pieces. . We will use some other tools and move back and forth to be able to see the surface at a distance. Keeping the process the same makes it easier to go big. So, together, we will use the same process you are comfortable with and try to stay as unstructured, tactile and messy as usual - feeling our way through the process and finding our flow.

Love from my past students

“I just watched the class videos for, ‘Bye Bye Perfection’ and have simply fallen in love with what you teach, and how you teach. I cannot wait to start a journal page using your process/techniques. I think you have set me free! Oh.....and in the video, when you tore the edges off the journal pages I swooned! OMG I love that look SO much! Thank you!””

— Peggy

"I wanted to thank you for the beautiful atmosphere at the workshop. I felt such a belonging. I think I've never felt that kind of belonging except at home. Maybe I was at home :) And you have really an encouraging way to teach, I felt you encouraged me to do my kind of art besides giving me new ideas how to use different tools etc. Thank you so much!"

Grow with Flow

“Before I took Jenny’s classes, I rarely got excited by what I was creating. Now I’m able to find that flow state where I’m happier, less frustrated and excited by what I’m making.”

I am Jenny and I am your Creative Guide in this class.

I am a perfectly imperfect, mixed media artist.

Like you, I spent many years pushing aside my creative spark. Then, one day I realised the only way to awaken my inner artist was to just dive in and do it.

This means focusing on the process of making art–the making and doing. Over the years I’ve developed an intuitive, unstructured, tactile and yes, messy (but fun!) process that has allowed me to open up the magic of what is unique within me.

Now, I am a Mixed Media Artist living in Stockholm, Sweden who has sold artwork, exhibited and run workshops all over the world. And I’m on a mission to inspire ordinary people like you to be brave, to use your inner creativity and to do more of what you love. To learn how to be more creative in life, as well as in your art.

I love sharing my magic world with you and can’t wait to see you in my class Grow to Flow. I have seen how my creative approach has helped the creativity blossom in me and in thousands of my students. I’m so excited to share it with you to inspire you to expand your skills, and grow your creative confidence too.

Love Jenny

What art supplies do I need?

You’ll get a full list of materials and supplies when you sign up to the course, but you don’t need much to get started.

I believe in reusing and recycling materials. I’m sure you already have a lot of it at home. Some of the most common things I use are:

  • Different sized substrates. You can use paper and cardboard. To find a big piece of cardboard to paint big ask in your local store they get things delivered in big boxes.
  • Pieces of scrap paper from old books
  • Acrylic paints, inks and matt mediums
  • Different brushes, sponges, a pallet knife or an old credit card will do
  • Mark making tools (stencils, caps, skewers etc.)
  • Pencils, rags and a spray bottle

You can start with what you have, and build on it as you learn and experiment.

When will I have access to the videos?

You will have instant access to all the content. I will also run monthly live sessions in the Facebook Group Find your Flow.

How long do I have access to the course material?

I want you to be able to develop solid creative habits so you’ll have access to the materials for at least two years. During this time, you’ll be able to revisit the content, the materials lists and the videos as many times as you wish.

What if I have a technical problem with the course and can’t access the videos?

There are a few ways to contact me if you’re experiencing problems:

  1. Inside the course, click the ‘Discussion’ button in the top right to ask a question at any time.
  2. Ask a question in the Facebook Group and I’ll answer you there.
